Pictured above is a fragment
of the genealogical tree of King Christian III of Denmark.
From Christian III (1503-59, reigned 1534-59), a branch
leads to his father, Frederik I (1471-1533, reigned 1523-33)
and from here to Frederik's parents Christian I (1426-81,
reigned 1448-1481) and Dorothea of Brandenburg. From here
the branches continue, with the result that the top row
consists of Christian III's great-great-grandparents. The
genealogical trees of Christian and his queen, Dorothea of
Lauenburg, were painted on wooden panels now hung at
Frederiksborg Castle in Denmark.
